I spent the day today getting organised. Packing bags, charging camera batteries, finding the connecting cords and electrical adaptors. I waterproofed my walking shoes and culled the clothes I had out to pack. I made a SYMMYA shirt and jumper to pack for photo opportunities, as I will be trying my hardest to walk/exercise my way round the Emerald Isle.
Yep, it's been a busy day. I finished writing up the itinerary, packed copies of my passport and separated my banking cards into two purses. Running away from home is bloody hard work.
Each time I travel overseas, I find I'm able to go down a bag size, but I still find I return home with things that I haven't worn. Things I have taken for a journey to the other side if the world, just for the hell of it. I don't wear them here, but for some reason I think that I will wear them overseas. I usually pack umbrellas and raincoats and medicines and stockings and umpteen other useless items.
Today, I'm quite proud of the fact, I've gone down another bag size and also been able to zip up the extension!! Any extras items such as an umbrella or paracetamol, I will buy there if the need arises. And leave there if it doesn't fit in for the return journey.
So, even though I'm not yet at the point of running off with just the clothes on my back and a backpack, I'm getting better at it. I roll my clothes now, not stack them. I buy shampoo and soap over there rather than adding weight to my luggage. I wear clothes and shoes that all mix and match, and pack no more than 3 pairs of shoes. If a pair of shoes only match one outfit, iI'll take both the outfit and the shoes out of my bag. Scarves and beads will add colour and variety to the solid colour clothing I'm planning to wear.
Finally, It's done. I'm packed. I'm prepared for everything except rain and a headache... And with a bit of Irish luck, I won't experience either..
